Local and Wide Area Networks
Entré Computer Services has designed, custom built the servers and
workstations, and installed Local Area Networks containing several
hundred seats in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.
Network Requirements Analysis
Professional systems organizers have identified planning as the most
important step in implementing a network. Understanding current and
projected needs is a must in designing, building and operating a local or
wide-area network. Entré has done a significant amount of planning
with public and private sector organizations, and has established
relationships with area experts who can supplement our staff when necessary.
Understanding the environment that the network must serve is paramount in
designing a system. Our experienced engineers will conduct a review of
your installed hardware, software, and communication systems. This
usually includes a ``Walk-through", where Entré examines the current
cabling and communication infrastructure. Entré then documents the plans
that are in place for the organization...If they exist. If an informational
technology plan is not in place, we are prepared to assist in developing a
plan.
Network Planning and Design
As a Novell Gold dealer and a Microsoft Certified Solution Provider, we are
uniquely qualified to assist organizations in designing a network that meets
their requirements. Entré has a number of MCSEs (Microsoft
Certified Systems Engineer) and CNEs (Certified NetWare Engineer) on staff
and 14 Years of experience in the implementation of local area networks
(LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). We specialize in performing
integration services and have experience with IBM, DEC, UNIX, and other
platforms.

Specifications Development
Occasionally, due to internal policy or legal requirements, an organization
may need to develop specifications to be submitted for competitive bidding.
Entré can tailor-build specifications to meet client requirements. The
client is then free to take our design and solicit competitive bids.

Detailed Network Design
Based on an organization's established goals, Entré can prepare local and
wide-area network designs. Our Microsoft Certified System Engineers
and Certified NetWare Engineers have experience in working with a wide
variety of environments, and can provide your organization with a total
design package.
Network Operation and Support Services
When examining network health and performance it is important to understand
what is normal. When we feel ill, we know our baseline (normal)
temperature and, with the proper tool (a thermometer), can tell when we
deviate from that temperature and run a fever. When it comes to
networks, it is not that simple. Each network has normal
characteristics, which tend to be unique to that network. As a group,
we call these network characteristics a ``baseline". By
performing a baseline analysis on a network, we determine and report to you
the standard operating characteristics of your LAN. A MCSE examines
each report for potential problems, and if the network involves Novell
components, a Novell CNE participates in both the design and the quality
control.
Network Audits
In many organizations LAN technology has spread through departments more
rapidly than can be tracked. A LAN audit can be invaluable. Entré
has a Network Audit team in place to analyze your implementation of PC and
LAN technology. We can assist your organization in successfully
documenting and analyzing application selection and implementation, backup
procedures, disaster recovery, etc. All audit offerings are tailored to your
specific needs.
Performance/Problem Determination and
Recommendations
Network errors, or failures can cripple organizations. It is vitally
important that when a failure occurs, it is resolved quickly and
effectively. Entré Computer Services has the personnel and the
experience with mission-critical applications requiring zero downtime to
resolve your network problems.
Performance Tuning
In many organizations LANs have grown from small beginnings to complex
enterprise systems. This growth may or may not have happened
within a master plan, but often there are applications that could run faster
and be more readily accessible. Using our knowledge of network topologies,
network operating systems, interoperability and our Networking tool kit,
Entré can adjust and adapt your LAN environment for peak performance.
Network Administration Services
Many organizations do not have sufficient resources to appropriately
administer a LAN. Entré offers a complete LAN Operation
service. We will customize a plan that includes regular on-site visits
by a trained network technician, remote administration of your LAN via
modems, and support of end users. Entré meets all of your
needs: user administration, application installation and maintenance, etc.
This service is normally provided with one- time, quarterly, or monthly
service offerings.
Fees for Baseline reports: The cost of this service varies depending on the
number of workstations, and/or the number of segments in a network.

Disaster Recovery
As LANs have matured, the number of running applications has increased
dramatically. Although organizations insure other assets, many
fail to institute an adequate Network disaster plan. It is important
to recognize that good disaster recovery can dramatically decrease both the
likelihood and severity of data loss. The Entré Network Team has
experience at all levels of disaster recovery, from planning assistance to
drill evaluation.
Premise Wiring and Testing
The lifeline of all LANs is the cable system. Various studies
attribute 85% to 90% of all network problems to cable malfunction and
improper termination wiring. No matter how good the components of your
network, a bad cable can create a headache that just will not go away.
Entré can both troubleshoot and quality assure your cable system with
sophisticated digital equipment. Our service is available for
customers with coaxial and twisted pair environments, and we back up all
service with printed reports detailing the characteristics of your cable
system. We are a general contractor licensed in the state of
California and can accomplish the modifications necessary to assure a
reliable system of network cabling. Our engineers and technicians have had
years of experience in maintaining network cable systems.
